The Department

"Impossible n’est pas français” a famous quote from Napoleon which would translate as: There is no such word in French for ‘impossible’ (you can do and achieve anything). We aim for our students to become confident speakers of French, to have fun, to work cooperatively with other members of the class and to develop a fascination to learn about other languages and cultures.

Madame S Laloyer

I’m passionate about languages, etymology (the study of the origin of words) and syntax (the arrangement of words and phrases to create well-formed sentences in a language). I particularly enjoy teaching grammar and French culture at KS3 and KS4. I also love history and therefore have a keen interest in teaching France under German occupation at KS5.

Madame Fitzgerald

I have always loved languages. I studied English, Spanish and German, and whilst learning them it felt like they were opening up new ideas and new worlds to me. I enjoy literature, but my greatest love is spoken language. In the future, I'm aiming to learn Italian.
