Unit 1:Listening: 1hr 45mins written exam ‘Influences on Music’ (80 marks). 30% AS / 15% A2

Unit 2:Composing:Creating Musical Ideas (60 marks). 30% AS/15% A2. Externally assessed coursework

Unit 3:Performing:Interpreting Musical Ideas (80 marks). 40% AS/20% A2. Internally assessed

 

A2 Level

Unit 4:Listening: Music in Context 2hrs 15 mins written exam (100 marks). 20% A level (Listening)

Unit 5: Composing: Developing Musical Ideas: (60 marks). 15% A level. Externally assessed coursework

Unit 6: Performing a Musical Performance: 15 mins (60 marks). 15% A level. Externally assessed

 

Description of Teaching and Learning


AS Level

Unit 1: Two areas of study, one compulsory ‘Western Classical Tradition’

Unit 2: Choice of compositional techniques, free composition or arranging.

Unit 3: Two performances – choice of solo instrumental/solo voice/solo second instrument/ensemble

 

A2 Level

Unit 4: Two areas of study, one compulsory ‘Western Classical Tradition’

Unit 5: As Unit 2

Unit 6: Two (or more) contrasting solo pieces.
