

Following her success in the North West Regional Final of the Nuffield Gold CREST Awards where she won the regional CREST prize in October 2008, Claire presented her work at the Big Bang Fair in London. This was a UK Young Scientists and Engineers Fair held at the QE2 Conference Centre from 4th to 6th March 2009.

Over 6,500 people attended the Fair. Over three days nearly 5,000 young people and more than 1,500 teachers, politicians, exhibitors, sponsors and members of the scientific community witnessed the UK’s biggest celebration of Science and Engineering. The 200 finalists competed for several prizes, including UK Young Scientist and Young Technologist of the Year Awards and many took part in the National CREST final.
Claire won the 2009 Best Gold CREST Award in the science category for her research project entitled “Natural Variation in the Circadian Rhythms of the Plant Capsella bursa-pastoris. From the 28,000 CREST projects originally undertaken during the past academic year Claire’s was judged to be the Best Gold Project.
