Year 7

Year 7 is a significant transition. The structure of the secondary school day is very different from what your daughter will have experienced at primary school. The day is longer, she will meet a greater number of teachers and she will need to move between lessons, remembering to bring the appropriate books and equipment with her. By the end of the year, she will take all of this in her stride. However, there may be times during the year when she feels very tired as a result of these new demands. If you have a clear understanding of her school routine, you’ll be better placed to encourage and support her.

From the outset, it is vitally important that all pupils take part in at least two extra-curricular activities. These opportunities allow your daughter to meet new peers, explore her interests and develop skills that complement her learning in the classroom. Many activities take place during the lunch break, which is structured to give pupils the time they need to get involved. A good lunch and some engaging or relaxing activities usually give the girls the energy they need to approach the afternoon positively.

We encourage you to use our school website and social media pages to keep up to date with what’s happening in school. You’ll find reports of recent events and trips involving our pupils. Discuss these with your daughter to help her see the many opportunities that will come her way as she moves up through the school. In doing so, you’ll help prepare her for the future and give her the confidence to embrace each new opportunity.
