Year 7 'Booked Up'
Once again in September all the Year 7s chose a free book from this national programme aimed at encouraging 11 year olds to read for pleasure. Titles and authors ranged from - "At the Sign of the Sugared Plum" by Mary Hooper to "Uncle Montague's Tales of Terror" by Chris Priestley.

The most popular title chosen was "Love Aubrey" by Suzanne La Fleur.
National Poetry Day
This was held on 7 October 2010 and this year's theme was 'Home'. Year 7 and 8 held poetry readings in the Library during the day.
National Non-Fiction Day
This was on 4 November 2010 and to celebrate we invited origami artist Yoshiki Kurokawa to hold workshops in the Library. Classes ranging from Year 7 to 13 came in throughout the day and made origami cards, balls, crackers and baskets.

The Anime Club was held in the Library at lunchtime and they made cats! Yoshiki was taught origami by her grandmother in Tokyo when she was very young and is a recognised origami instructor by the Nippon Origami Association and a member of the British Origami Society.

It was a very enjoyable and creative day for everyone involved.
Poetry Reading
Local poet and former English teacher at Upton, Angela Topping read a selection of poems from her latest book "The New Generation" at lunchtime in the Library during the last week of term before Christmas.
