Upton Hall School

Year 7 Trip to St Omer 2009

89 excited Upton girls set off on consecutive weekends for a taste of France and the chance to put into action the language which they have learnt in class this year.

Beautiful weather was a bonus for the four days we were away.  In spite of having to get up early for a 6 am departure, the girls found themselves in the Channel Tunnel before they knew it.

After settling in, dinner in the Manoir and rounders on the field our pupils snuggled down for their first night in France.

The next two days passed in a flasth with shopping, visits to Boulogne old town and 4D cinema experience in Nausicaà as highlights.

Sunday was spent in Bagatelle - a very French theme park where the top attraction was certainly the log flume.

Lessons in life!

There is no doubt that this trip gave our pupils a chance to enjoy making new friends across their year group and to take their first steps in independent travel.

Great lessons in dealing with your own money, sorting out problems and not depending solely on parents for everything were learnt.

We have already booked places for next year!
