Upton Hall School

Reaping the rewards of success!

Annual Prize Giving – Thursday 2 April 2009

On the evening of Thursday 2 April 2009, Upton welcomed back members of Sixth Form who left in July 2008 together with prize winners from all year groups in the school for the Annual Prize Giving. There was great delight as former members of Sixth Form were reunited, some for the first time since leaving.

The evening celebrated the outstanding achievements of Upton pupils with staff, governors, parents and friends joining them for this memorable event.

We were delighted to welcome Miss Carol Makin an eminent surgeon at Arrowe Park Hospital & President (Section of Coloproctology) Royal Society of Medicine, London as our Chief Guest. She addressed the girls about fulfilling their ambitions and reaching their potential. She demonstrated that no matter what your background with self belief, drive and determination anything is feasible. She undoubtedly inspired and encouraged many of our girls that it is possible to live your dreams.

The audience were also entertained by the music and dance programme with the Senior Orchestra performing “Entrance of Sirdar” by Iwanov.

Following the resounding success of the Gym and Dance Celebration Evening earlier in the term, the GCSE Dance Group performed a piece from Hairspray entitled “I can hear the Bells” which had made up part of their production “Baltimore High”.

The Chamber Choir sang a traditional arrangement by Mansfield of “Eriskay Love Lilt” and following a vote of thanks by the newly appointed Head Girl, Katie O’Malley, finished the evening with Rutter’s “The Lord Bless You and Keep You”.

Congratulations to all the girls who received awards and certificates for their exceptional achievements. It was wonderful to see so many girls across all year groups thriving and exceeding expectations alongside the former students who have enjoyed and continue to enjoy huge success. We are very proud of them all.
