HEADTEACHER APPOINTMENT
Required for September 2018
Salary: L31-37
Contract type: Full Time
Contract term: Permanent

Upton Hall School FCJ is seeking to appoint a school leader with exceptional potential to lead the school when the current Head retires in August 2018 after 21 years.  This is an exciting and challenging post which will provide immense job satisfaction.

Who are we?

Upton Hall School FCJ is a Roman Catholic Grammar School for girls 11-18 with academy status.  It is situated within the Diocese of Shrewsbury and Wirral Local Authority and is a member of the Faithful Companions of Jesus (FCJ) Academy Trust.  The school was founded by the FCJ Sisters in 1849 and has been on this site since 1864. OFSTED has judged it to be outstanding. The progress of our pupils in all aspects of their education is at the heart of all we do. The Progress 8 measure for 2017 is 0.93 reflecting the strong academic success of the school but for us that is only part of the story: we want our young people to become confident, independent individuals, capable of becoming their best selves by developing all aspects of their being for their own sake but also to enable them to improve the world in which they live. Music, art and drama, a wide range of sports, gymnastics and a thriving Duke of Edinburgh scheme provide challenges outside the curriculum. Our pupils and Sixth Form students are talented and keen to learn.  Our ethos is articulated in all we do but it can be summed up in the words, ‘Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done’

Who are we hoping to appoint?

A school leader, who is able to provide evidence of making a beneficial impact on the experience of pupils in their current school and who has a passion for inspiring young people.  We require a practising Roman Catholic who will be committed to supporting and developing our strong ethos and who is able to provide an insight into pedagogy and promoting outstanding learning.  Experience of promoting pupil wellbeing and positive behaviour and a commitment to enabling the school to benefit the wider community are essential.  We also expect a commitment to staff CPD. Other qualities we are seeking will include: a sense of humour, a creative approach to problem solving and a keen eye for future developments. Energy and the ability to turn powerful ideas into action will be needed.  We want someone who is eager to build on our current success and is able to find ways of creating even more opportunities for our pupils and Sixth Form students.

Where are we?

Upton Hall is situated on the Wirral peninsula, set between the rivers Dee and Mersey and extending into Liverpool Bay and the Irish Sea. Although Wirral has been described as the North West’s best kept secret, it is known for its rich heritage and natural beauty.  Wirral’s coastline provides at least two iconic views: across the Mersey to Liverpool’s UNESCO World Heritage Site waterfront and across the Dee to Snowdon and the Welsh Hills.  It is rich in opportunities for leisure with golf courses, sailing clubs, and the Wirral Country Park provides an abundance of leisure space for walking and cycling. There is a wide choice of housing, excellent schools and easy access to Liverpool and Chester via a network of roads and public transport. It is a very attractive place to live and work.

The school has beautiful buildings and grounds and is minutes away from the M53.

What can we offer?

We have a talented and hard working staff who provide outstanding teaching and a rich array of opportunities for our pupils and Sixth Form.  The staff are highly professional and offer excellent support to student teachers and NQTs as well as pupils. Our parents are supportive and the Governing Body is committed to the school’s success and acts as a critical friend. Founded in 1849, the school is able to draw on its history while looking ahead to future opportunities and challenges, with the security of financial stability. As a school with International School status, Upton looks outwards and enables its pupils to co-operate with their global neighbours. We have close relationships with the three other FCJ schools and work together for the benefit of all our pupils. We have strong relationships with the Diocese and the Local Authority. This is a rare opportunity to build on success and work in a happy and thriving community.  The greatest attraction has to be our pupils and Sixth Form students who provide us all with challenge, inspiration and hope for the future.

What motivates us?

The school has been on this site since 1864 and has seen educational structures come and go.  Our core purpose as expressed in our mission statement has stood the test of time:

Upton Hall School strives to provide educational experiences which will enable individuals to achieve their full potential in every aspect of their development.

Inspired by the vision of the Foundress of the FCJ society, we aim to promote a Christian ethos that encourages students to value the pursuit of excellence, and allows them to attain personal fulfilment by making a purposeful contribution to society.

‘Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done’.

You are very welcome to come and see for yourself.
