A Distinction for the Chamber Choir

On Saturday 25 March, thirteen members of our Chamber Choir performed at the Wirral Music Festival held at Birkenhead High School Academy. The Choir were entered into the Choral Groups class, singing “When She Loved Me” (from Toy Story 2) by Randy Newman, arranged by Brian Lund, and “Open Up Them Pearly Gates,” a traditional Gospel song made famous by The Seekers, arranged by Mrs Hulme and accompanied by Mr Roberts. We arrived to discover that we were the only choir entered in our category  and therefore we came first by default! However, the adjudicator awarded us a mark of 89 (Distinction) and told us that it was the highest mark he'd awarded all day! He was very complimentary, praising the girls' "impressive sense of ensemble" and "excellent tone." He described the second piece we sang as "stunning." He was disappointed that we were not entered into any other categories and he said "you'd give some of the other choirs here today a run for their money!" The girls were thrilled with his feedback and thoroughly enjoyed the performance - I am, of course, delighted with them! A very successful afternoon! - Mrs C Hulme
