Annual School Mass

Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King, Liverpool

 Saturday 5 November 2016

Upton Hall School community gathered in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King in Liverpool on Saturday 5 November 2016 for the Annual School Mass.  Fr John Feeny led the service assisted by Deacons John Boggan, Peter Jackson and Basil Stephens.  In the full cathedral with a congregation of over 2,200 people there were many former pupils and staff and a group of our trustees, the FCJ sisters.

The theme of the school mass this year was the value and importance of education across the globe. Our current Head Girl, Alice and three of her Deputies, Stephanie, Eleanor and Amelia welcomed the congregation and explained how we need to be mindful of those many young people who do not have access to an education. We prayed for the success of our project to rebuild a school in Nepal that was destroyed in an earthquake. Working with the charity So The Child May Learn and by raising a minimum of £10,000, we are planning to build an IT room and a laboratory giving young people resources that we take for granted but which for them, will be life changing.

The music elevated the event, at times to the sublime.  From the opening brass fanfare to the closing notes of the final hymn, Tell Out My Soul, the quality was exceptional.  Mrs Hulme, Head of Music, and the Chamber Choir led the congregation in the wonderful singing that added enormously to what was a great event.
